Dear Monticello Mustangs Family,
Today, Matt Hicks announced his resignation as Head Football Coach here at Monticello, with plans to leave public education at the end of this school year in pursuit of a new career opportunity. In five years, he led a Mustangs football program through the Covid pandemic and in a re-growth from an 0-10 season to earning back-to-back Jefferson District Coach of the Year awards in 2023 & 2024 with the implem
entation of 'The Gold Standard' as the expectation for conduct, attitude and effort from everyone in and connected to Mustangs football.
While Coach Hicks is moving on to the next phase of his life with his family, 'The Gold Standard' - built on the values of Academics, Character, Commitment and Community - will remain a prominent influence on our program as we select our next Head Coach. I am grateful today for Matt's leadership in our football program and our school community. His impact and influence will continue to be felt by Monticello's student-athletes for years to come.
While there is no definitive timetable for the hiring of our next Head Coach, we have already begun identifying qualified candidates who meet the expectations of and commitment to 'The Gold Standard' of Monticello Mustangs Football while Coach Hicks will continue to lead our program's off-season activities until the next Head Coach is announced. Applications will be accepted via the Albemarle County Public Schools Human Resources website, and inquiries may be directed to my attention.
In Sportsmanship,
Matthew Pearman, Sr.
Director of Athletics
Monticello High School
