Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) has partnered with UVA’s Concussion Clinic to provide families of student-athletes with an in-clinic option for baseline concussion testing. Families, with this partnership, have the choice for your child to complete their concussion testing per the ACPS Concussion Guidelines at our school with our Athletic Training staff or they can complete it at UVA’s Concussion Clinic on the dates specified below. Currently this opportunity is offered for student-athletes who are planning to participate in winter sports. There will be a time designated in February for student-athletes to complete baseline testing at UVA’s Concussion Clinic if they are planning to participate in a spring sport.
If your child has already completed a baseline concussion test this school year, and has not been diagnosed with a concussion, they do not need to complete another baseline test this school year. However, parents are welcome to opt-in your student-athlete to the UVA Health program via the attached information. The dates for Monticello student-athletes at UVA’s Concussion Clinic are Monday November 18th and Thursday November 21st. The 18th is scheduled for student-athletes who are planning to play basketball or cheer, who do not already have a baseline concussion test done this school year. The 21st is scheduled for any other winter sport student-athletes (wrestling, track & field, swim & dive) who have not already completed a baseline concussion test this school year.
The attached letter from Dr. Jacob Resch with UVA Health offers details about this opportunity, and includes a QR code and a link to register if you choose for your student-athlete to complete the baseline testing at UVA. If you have any questions, please reach out to our Athletic Trainer - Shannon Snell - at ssnell@k12albemarle.org or the UVA Health Orthopedic Center Ivy Rd at 434-924-2663.
